The
Dutch soprano Claudia Couwenbergh studied at the Conservatory of
Maastricht with Ingrid Kappelle and Barbara Schlick. She also took part
in the opera class and currently receives vocal coaching from Gemma
Visser.
She followed masterclasses with Rudolf Jansen, Elly Ameling,
Rudolf Piernay, Semyon Skigin, Konrad Junghänel, Roberta Alexander and
participated in the masterclass “Acting for Singers” at the
Theatreschool Maastricht and received lessons with Yolande Bertsch and
Willy Decker a.o.
Claudia appeared on stage as Fiordiligi in
Cosi fan tutte (W.A.Mozart), Erste Dame and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte
(W.A.Mozart), Micaëla in Carmen (G.Bizet), Mrs Gobineau in The Medium
(G.C. Menotti), Hélene in Das Pensionat (F. von Suppé) and Belinda in
Dido & Aeneas (H.Purcell). In July 2008 she was invited to
perform Buhlschaft in the play Jedermann (Hugo von Hofmannsthal) at the
Domfestspiele Bad Gandersheim.
She sang with the Wiener
Akademie, Florilegium Musicum, Beethoven Orchester, Bochumer
Symphoniker, Limburgs Symfonie Orkest, Barockorchester L’arpa festante
(München), Kölner Barockorchester, Collegium Ad Mosam and worked with
conductors as Paul Goodwin (Händelfestspiele Halle), Martin Haselböck
(Vienna), Ed Spanjaard, Hans Leenders, Dmitri Jurowski, Ivo Venkov.
Spring 2008 she was invited to sing Ein Deutsches Requiem
(J.Brahms) in Beirut (Al Bustan Festival) conducted by Dmitri Jurowski.
In 2009 she sang Verdi's Requiem with the Bochumer Symphoniker at the
Beethovenhalle Bonn. March 2009 and 2010 she sang Bach's
Matthäuspassion with the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest conducted by Ed
Spanjaard. Next season she will perform with the Noord Nederlands
Orkest in Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium conducted by Stefan Vladar.
In
2006 a CD was released worldwide on Naxos of J.S.Bach's
Matthäuspassion, together with the Kölner Kammerorchester conducted by
Helmut Müller Brühl.
Besides the opera and her wide ranged
oratorio repertoire she loves to sing contemporary compositions and
Lied. For example, she performed at J.S. Bach's birth house in Eisenach
and had the honour to perform for her Majesty the Queen of the
Netherlands (Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam).
December 2007 she was invited
to sing two solo recitals in Dubai together with pianist Robert
Weirauch. In 2008 she performed at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam.
Claudia is member of the baroque ensemble Agimont with which she performs at various festivals and concert halls.
